Minot State University art student Briana Schwan will present her senior exhibition, "Synesthesia," December 6 through December 30, 2011 in the Gordon B. Olson Library Gallery, MSU. The opening reception is Wednesday, December 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the library gallery.
"The photos in this exhibit are visual representations of the sounds heard in different musical techniques and styles," says Schwan. The colorful photos are accompanied by an audio tour; music and explanations of the musical terms illustrated add to the interpretation of each piece. In addition, the opening reception will feature a piano performance by Schwan.
Schwan is a double major at MSU, where she studies music and art.
"I grew up surrounded by music, so it made sense for me to create art about this vital part of my life," says Schwan. "I hope to share my love of music with people everywhere."
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Parking on the MSU campus is unrestricted after 5 p.m.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about Northwest Art Center activities, call 701-858-3264.
