It’s a MADCAP Weekend in Minot!

Here’s what’s happening this MADCAP weekend:
The fourth annual Integrity Jazz Festival begins with a swing dance! The Vegas Hotel presents The Swing Band of Minot in the Tropicana Room on Friday, June 17, 2011. Dance instruction begins at 7 PM, dancing to follow! $10 for the dance, or $25 for ALL festival events.

We’re Jazzed!
On Saturday the 18th, Roosevelt Park will be filled with artists and artisans, food, music, fun and a 5 K run. Minot’s energetic Dakota Dixie performs at noon followed by the NoDak Summit Band of Bismarck. The Swing Band of Minot appears for the second year. Kansas City’s extraordinary Doug Talley Quartet will perform and also spotlight Zane Markel, Chris Basden and Micah Holman, all student musicians chosen for this honor from the Minot High School Jazz festival. Later Doug’s men will work with Steve Veikley’s Gentle Winds Orchestra.
Our headliner, The Four Freshmen, one of the top vocal groups of the 1950s, remains the Nation’s # 1 Jazz Vocal Group. They formed the bridge between 40s ensembles such as the Meltones and harmony-based rock “&” roll bands like the Beach Boys and have been consistently in demand. . In what is sure to cause vocal excitement Minot’s Nodakords will join the Four Freshmen in performing two of their classic arrangements. Nodakords Director, Gordon Troxel said “ The Nodakords are excited about this opportunity! It’s a great chance to share the stage with a top notch act.” The MACA ( Minot Area Council of the Arts) office has been contacted by various “Four Freshmen Societies” in support of this group’s appearance at our festival. Tickets are $20 at the gate. Student admission $10.

Musicians and the public are invited to an informal jam session, from 9 PM-1 AM at Off the Vine located in downtown Minot.
